 Retelling Magellan's Philippines, Early 1521

Early 1521: The Armada de Molucca owned by Emperor Charles V has crossed the Atlantic and for the first time in European history circumnavigated South America, and crossed the Pacific Ocean. One ship was lost to storms and another to mutiny. 3 ships still under Ferdinand Magellan's command approach islands that would later be called the Philippines.
A man held in slavery by Magellan as an interpreter and probably a personal attendant played a vital role in European discoveries.
I want to tell not just Magellan's story, but the stories of the peoples he encountered.
Cebu was eyed as Spain's capital for the Philippines before Manila, due in large part to Magellan's efforts.
Early diplomacy between European ventures and Southeast Asian polities was motivated by commerce to explore cultural bridges.
Commerce, culture, and social structure come together in unexpected ways.
Magellan's loyal chronicler recorded the tragedy of failed alliance after his beloved Captain's leadership
